Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles Wedding Hits New Snags
Wednesday March 2, 2005
Most people about to celebrate their second weddings only have to worry about making sure their divorce from their first spouses is final. But Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles seem to run into obstacle after obstacle. First, it was a question of location: While they were going to marry at Windsor Castle, British law would require them to license the Castle for marriages, and then let - egads - commoners marry there! So they sensibly decided for a simple city hall wedding. But the Queen then announced that she would not attend the ceremony portion of the wedding, giving a feeble excuse that they wanted the wedding to be low key. As you can imagine not many Britons bought into that one.
But the latest development seems to make this royal wedding officially worthy of being dubbed a poorly-planned fiasco. It seems that according to British Law, it is against the law for a Royal to wed in a civil ceremony. Because of religious law, Prince Charles, or any person, cannot wed a divorcee with a living husband in an Anglican church. An official legal inquiry has been opened, along with the third ring of the circus. Remember how smooth and beautiful Prince Charles' first wedding to Princess Diana was?
