Amazon.com debuts wedding registry
Saturday May 7, 2005
In a move that was long overdue, Amazon.com has launched a wedding registry on its website. Now brides and grooms can register for the vast array of items that Amazon sells - from books and videos to traditional housewares and furniture, even magazine subscriptions and exercise equipment. It's a shrewd business idea for Amazon, as wedding registries generate billions of dollars worth of business every year. But before you go running off to register, consider a few things. You won't be able to touch and examine closely, meaning that you won't know if that fine china is really so fine after all. And, a magazine subscription is great, but wouldn't it be better to get items to help you set up your household and remember your wedding day?

Amazon’s wedding registry doesn’t live up to its own high standards. Returning gifts is a real pain and you must pay postage. It seems convenient because you can have just one register for everything—house wares, sports, etc. But it ISN’T worth it. There are too many disadvantages, and inadequate customer service. My family and friends have had to endure too much inconvenience on this register.
