Ask Nina: Can I throw a Honeymoon Shower?

Tuesday August 16, 2005
I get so many great questions from readers in my email, that I thought I'd start a new feature called Ask Nina.

Today's question comes from Cheryl, who writes: "I have a niece who is getting married and already has an apartment, as does her fiance. Is it possible to have a bridal shower theme or list possible gifts as "money for honeymoon" or such along with where they are registered?"

My response after the jump.

In my opinion, mentioning money on any invitation is a little tacky, so I might word the invitation something like:

A Honeymoon Shower for Jane Smith,

Come celebrate Jane's soon-to-be marriage to John Doe. After they tie-the-knot, they're honeymooning in Hawaii! Let's help her get in the mood with a Hawaiian Luau.

Please bring a gift that John and Jane can enjoy on their honeymoon. They are also registered at Crate and Barrel.

If you're looking for other bridal shower invitation wording, click here.

If you have a question you'd like to ask a weddings expert, please write weddings.guide@about.com. Put "ask Nina" in the subject line, and include your first name in the body of the message.

I would just like to say that I am a new wedding and event planner and your articles are so helpful. Every once in a while I will look back through my old e-mails from you and apply something you wrote about to an event or situation. Thank you for your knowledge and insight. Have a great day!

I’m throwing a honeymoon shower for my friend, and we’ve registered her secretly for this through her usual travel agent, which works out well, because she wanted a money show which I’m not comfortable throwing.
