Halloween Weddings

Tuesday October 31, 2006
Happy Halloween! I hope you are all planning to have a safe and happy holiday tonight. Halloween is a day of the year on which people especially love to get married. (The others are Valentine's Day, New Years, and every Saturday in June). If Halloween is your favorite holiday, you might consider getting married next year on Halloween. The bride and groom can wear costumes, or ask their guests to dress in costume. You could also simply decorate for halloween, and provide elegant masks for your guests to wear.

But the ultimate Halloween wedding might be getting married at the Capela dos Ossos, or Chapel of Bones. Part of the Church of San Francisco in Evora, Portugal, the chapel was built out of real human skeletons. Its creators wanted to convey the message that life on earth is temporal - at the entrance is the warning "Nós ossos que aqui estamos pelos vossos esperamos" or in English, "We bones that are here, for your bones we wait."
