Wedding Invitation Wording

Monday February 19, 2007
Traditional wedding invitations begin by listing the bride's parents. But if you've got stepparents, changed names, not changed names, single parents, blended families, or more, wedding invitation wording can be a little tricky. I've been getting tons of questions lately about this very subject! Personally, I'm a big fan of "Together with their familes, Jane Smith and John Doe request the honor of your presence at their wedding." It includes everyone without being specific, and it sounds friendly.

Since so many families these days don't fit the typical nuclear family structure, I put together both a basic wedding invitation wording guide and a guide to wedding invitation wording for blended families. And if your wedding doesn't fit the mold in other ways, here's sample invitation wording for non-traditional weddings
