Reader Questions: What to Wear to a Destination Wedding?

If you'd rather choose a more versatile dress to wear, check out this Badgley Mischka raspberry cocktail dress. Its bright color and designer details help create that "Tropical Evening" feel.
What in the world am I supposed to wear to a wedding on a Carribean island where the dresscode has been indicated as "Tropical Evening??" The ceremony will be at a private home and the reception at a fancy clubhouse. I am fairly stumped on this one, since the groom said it is definately not black tie (he will be wearing a suit). Is a maxi length silk dress still ok? Are vibrant patterns or colors ok? Would a cocktail length dress be more appropriate? The majority of the guests will be quite "fancy" and from Manhattan. The idea here is to bridge the divide between casual island style and sophisticated evening chic. Look at my suggestion for what to wear to a fall destination wedding. (Since island weather stays the same, this dress will still work.) The style, length and silk fabric say evening, while the fabric pattern and cut are more casual. Look at other long silk sundresses such as this one.

Good call on the Mischka dress, it’s lovely.
Thanks! It looks like a cute dress from far away, but then the satin criss-cross bands make the dress far more stylish.
