Bridal Week Madness

Tuesday October 23, 2007
www.dahliascakes.com I apologize for being so quiet lately. I've been drowning in thousands and thousands of white dresses (and a few hot pink ones!) at New York Bridal Market Week. This is when bridal designers show buyers and press their designs for the Spring 2008 wedding gown season. It's days of madness, rushing around from one showroom to another, watching fashion shows as well as flipping through racks of wedding and bridesmaid dresses. A few quick notes:

  • Blush is going to be huge! So many designers showed pale pink wedding gowns, far more wearable than the sky blue or bright colored dresses shown in previous seasons.
  • An emphasis on the waist, as I predicted in my article 2008 Wedding Trends
  • Much of that emphasis is brought by beaded accents, rather than all-over beading.
  • Look for dresses with lots of texture. Whether its cut-out and appliqued flowers, pin-tuck pleated organza, or overlays of swiss lace, designers are looking to add interest with tone-on-tone texture rather than beading or colored accents.
New (at least to me) Designers to Watch Out For: Heidi Elnora, The Cotton Bride by Chris Kole, Aimee Lauren, and Sassi Holford, a London designer new to the US and the designer of the dress seen here.
