Yay or Nay? Is This an Ugly Bridesmaid's Dress?

Thursday October 30, 2008
Jenny Yoo Katia Bridesmaid Dress For the last edition of Is This an Ugly Bridesmaid's Dress?, you all said "NAY" in a landslide. There were only a few people who stood up to defend that terrible thing. This week, I'm expecting a few more dissenters.

Perhaps that's because I'm a bit torn myself. At first I really liked it - it feels like an Audrey Hepburn vintage look, and it has a lot of style. But the more I looked at it, the more I started to realize how much I'd hate to wear it. First of all, taffeta is not an easy fabric to wear, especially in pink. It's always going to look like a bridesmaid's dress, no many how many times the bride tells you, "You can wear it again!" And while this model looks great, I wonder how it would look on someone with a little more junk in the trunk. Would it help to hide the booty, or would it just accentuate it? I'm thinking the latter.

What do you all think?

Its very pretty, as a bridesmaid dress. But that’s what it will remain following the intended use. As nentioned, taffeta is hard to wear outside of that setting. But inside it, this is a pretty piece.

I don’t like it at all. The bow and color reminds me of a dress from the 80’s

YIKES!!!! What in the world??? This is a disaster. My bridesmaid would kill me if I ever dare tell them to even try this on. This I have to say is UGLY

I think it is very nice for a bridesmaid dress. It has the elegeant classic look to it. I agree you need to be slim to wear it. I would have no problems wearing it myself and I love the shimmer from the taffeta. I think you must have an appreciation for the classic look to fully appreciate it. As was stated, Audrey Hepburn.

Nay. This is not a nice looking dress and I love pink. I think it may be the giant bow thing that throws me off. All in all, it is not a very flattering dress at all.

The style I like but the colour and the material has got to go. It is kinda vintage, but in this modern era vintage is good, I think it can be quite classy. I question its reusability though, and for $300 + dollars its should be “wearer” friendly at least a few times.

I agree with others that it’s definitely only for bridesmaid use, & of course, no “not-slim” figure would look great in it. However, I find that problem to be true of many bridal fashions. However, that’s where my negativity ends. I like the unique style, & think it stands out from some of the ordinary attendant dresses I’ve seen. Agreed, in a different colour it would be more stunning!

I don’t think Audrey Hepburn ever wore a gigantic bow. Or fluorescent pink, for that matter. I like the sleek, simple style underneath, but the fabric and bow are awful.

My girls would have killed me if I had them were this color. The bow is hideous and almost all of my girls have “junk in the trunk” and other places from being mothers. This shape would have looked horrible and too much pink.

I went with a simple apple red dress from David’s that worked for all the figures from one that was size 6 to the one that was size 22:

it’s not a good dress… or rather, in the color shown, it’s hideous. if it were a more neutral color, a black, perhaps, or a nice rich shade of brown… it could work. it would be lovely in one of those colors, or even in a champagne. however, in bubblegum pink, it’s the thing in which nightmares are clad! one thing which i find unclear, is whether or not the bow is detachable. if it is, it could be made less … in your face, shall we say? as long as the wearer is proportional, with an hourglass type figure, it could be worn and look good. you’d run into some real trouble with it if you tried to put a gal with a pear shape, no matter what dress size she wore. and, apple shaped ladies won’t work at all.

Its not bad looking, but i wouldnt let my bridesmaud wear it. But then again everyone has their own style.

My first reaction was..”Oo! That’s kinda stylish!” Then I thought about what it might look like on the average bridesmaid. One would have to be tall, thin and pretty tan to pull that look off. If your bridesmaids are a little more average, you will probably have a pretty unhappy bridal party if you suggest they be photographed in that.

it’s horrible! I would never wish that on anyone. It might be passable if not for that table cloth sized piece of fabric tucked into the waistband. Let’s see, it’ll get crushed, scrunched, wrinkle and probably curl up if you actually sit for any length of time and it actually disguises any waist that a woman might have. Wouldn’t do it to a friend, let alone a future in-law.

Hideous! That giant bow makes even her anorexic body look wide in the middle.

My bridesmaids are wearing this http://www.davidsbridal.com/bridesmaids_detail.jsp?stid=3331&prodgroup=110 with blue instead of pink.
