Running Away to City Hall to Get Hitched: Now in a Glamorous New Facility
Wednesday January 7, 2009
When I first heard that New York was changing the location of where civil wedding ceremonies would be performed, I was upset. After all, there's nothing like City Hall for that classic wedding ceremony. Plus, the old building (technically across the street from the actual City Hall, but part of the same complex) was full of historic architectural details, which added to my visions of eloping as being like starring in a romantic vintage movie.
But apparently I had on my rose-colored glasses, as others had complained about the endless metal detectors, long lines, and the drabness of the actual wedding ceremony room. Now New York has a new fancy marriage facility, complete with bridal dressing rooms, two pretty chapels, and expedited service. They even have a shop where you can buy rings, flower bouquets and other bridal bling. And best of all, it's in an older building full of art deco architectural details like marble columns and gilded ceilings. Now I can take off those rose-colored glasses and still be dancing in the vintage movie of my dreams.
If you were eloping, would you rather go to Las Vegas or New York City?
