What Will Be the 2010 Wedding Trends?

Tuesday May 12, 2009
Since it's only the middle of May, you might be wondering how I can predict the 2010 wedding trends. But couples getting married next year are already planning their weddings, and making choices based on current fashions, the economy, and family traditions. And though I've started my list of what I think the 2010 wedding trends, I'd love to know what you guys think is hot, hip and popular. You can tell me and all of your fellow readers what you think in About.com's new reader response tool. Read the article, then click the link at the bottom to share your opinion!

Love the birdcage veil as it brings an old fashioned glamor to your wedding look.

Agree that more couples will look to having a destination wedding and those that are staying closer to home will be more creative with their wedding venue. Couples no longer feel they have to have the best hotel in town, instead they are finding fun places – museums, parks, clubs, community centers and cafes to hold their wedding – and they are a lot cheaper!

I like bright colors for 2010. We’ve seen a move toward deep and bright sunset colors this year, and I think it will only get bolder in 2010. Monochromatic schemes (think several shades and hues of turquoise or fuschia or mulberry). Unusual materials (we’re currently working on two folio invitation projects using white leather and satin borcade), galvanized charger plates, the look of lucite (clear anything… vases, plates, candle holders, favor boxes, etc.). Black is definitely in, and I think gunmetal grey with pops of bright yellows, oranges, reds, and teals will continue to gain in popularity. Adorable fifties style dresses (wedding gowns and bridesmaids) I think will gain in popularity… who doesn’t wish we could go to Macy’s and walk out looking like one of the ladies in the cast of Mad Men)?
