Seating Plans and Charts: Organizing Your Guests

By , About.com Guide   August 24, 2010

I must confess: creating our wedding seating chart was a task my groom said he wanted to do, and knowing what a hassle wrangling guests can be, I gladly let him take over.  But I have helped other couples with their seating plans, which we created with good old fashioned pen and paper, along with an Excel spreadsheet of the guests.  (Video on how to use a similar wedding Excel chart). So when a friend asked for an online seating plan program to use when organizing his son's upcoming rehearsal dinner, I was a bit stumped. The Discovery Channel has an interative seating chart that's almost perfect, except it's not very customizable. You can only have tables of 6 or 8, and you can't draw in important factors like where the band will be, or the buffet line. Perfect Table Plan seems to have pretty great software, except you have to pay for it. (There is a free trial available.) Do you have any other suggestions for ways to organizing your guest seating chart? I'd love to hear them! Just don't say, "Force the job onto someone else!" I already used that one!

I used the seating chart on weddingmapper.com and it met my needs very well. I could chart out the whole design plan as well as the table set up and who sat where.

Yes, Places Everyone (www.placeseveryone.com) It’s NOT software and if you’re a visual-type person it’s a REALLY great way to plan the seating

theknot.com……it lets you choose the tables for the dj, the bar and anything else you might need to add besides the tables…..once you register you make your own wedding website and its on there…have fun!

i have seen a lot of wedding couple struggling for seat arrangement, that little problem gives them headache and leave no smile on their face, bad news for a wedding photographer like me, cos we want to catch them smiling, not complaining, i think getting someone to help on the seating plan is definitely a good idea.
