I'm thankful to say that my family here in Brooklyn and Long Island emerged unscathed from the Frankenstorm Sandy. But as I've been helping my neighbors in Coney Island, Canarsie, and the Far Rockaways, I've been overwhelmed with the level of need they have and the huge job of cleanup and recovery ahead of us. Especially today as the temperature is dropping, many are still without heat, and the gas shortage means generators can't run, the situation is grim.
Meanwhile people all over the country have been asking how they can help, and there's now a fun wedding-related way to do so. The people I've been working with have set up a wedding registry highlighting the most needed items. You can buy the "happy couple" a wedding gift of a generator, rubber gloves, or a hand-crank flashlight, secure that it'll get to the people who need it most.
