Buffet - definition

By Nina Callaway, About.com

Definition: An informal way of serving food at wedding receptions where dishes are set out on a long table or sideboard. Guests stand in line to help themselves to whatever they like. Pluses: Can be cheaper than a seated dinner, guests get more options. Minuses: Guests are standing in line, less elegant, may not save you money as platters must be kept full.
