The Interview Bridal Shower Game
Give guests a short list of questions about their fellow guests. For example, you could ask, “Who here has 7 children?” or “Which guest(s) was the bride’s partner-in-crime during college?” Filling out the quiz encourages guests to mingle and get to know one another in between opening presents and eating cake. At the end of the party, award a prize to the person who has the most answers correct.
The Tables Are Turned
Tell the guests that later on in the party there will be a charades-like game; in preparation, they all need to write down their name and a suggestion for a silly wedding-related scene they’d like to see the bride act out. For example, “Act out the groom being nervous before the wedding” or “Show us how you reacted when the groom proposed.” The twist comes when you tell guests, “Surprise! You’re going to act out the suggestions you gave!” Give prizes for the funniest, the boldest, and the sweetest acts.
Clothespins
When guests arrive, give each person three clothespins and the three *special* forbidden words – the groom’s name, the word “bride,” and the word “wedding.” If someone catches someone else saying one of the forbidden words, they get to steal one of their clothespins. At the end, the person with the most clothespins gets a prize. When I’ve played this game before, the more competitive guests quickly realized that the more people you talk to, the more likely you are to hear them say a forbidden word. There were a lot of conversations, and a lot of laughter filling the room.
Story Time
When you mail the invitations, include a card for guests to write down either their favorite memory of the bride or their marriage advice for her. Take turns going around the room and having everyone read aloud what they wrote for her.
Purse Scavenger Hunt or Let's Make a Deal
Remember that old game show, Let's Make a Deal? At the end of every show, Monty Hall would give audience members money for a specific unusual item. This is the same idea. Divide guests into teams of two or three, giving them a list of slightly unusual items, including a few "why in the world would you carry that in a purse?" items. Assign points to each item based on the likelihood that someone will have it. (a lipstick carries 10 points, a can opener 90 points). Get the teams to present their winning items to the group; the team with the most points is the winner. Another variation is to call out items as the bride is opening presents, giving a small individual prize for each item.
