If you got engaged over the holidays, you are far from alone! Hollywood jewelry stores must have been busy with all the celebrities who've also recently decided to tie the knot, including Reese Witherspoon, Natalie Portman, Jason Mraz, Leann Rimes, Eddie Cibrian, Hugh Hefner, Vivica A. Fox, Sherri Shepherd and Ginnifer Goodwin.
Newly Engaged Celebrities
Reese Witherspoon got engaged to agent Jim Toth. He proposed with a custom-designed 4-carat Ashoka-cut diamond and platinum engagement ring with a pavé diamond band. Similar to a cushion-cut, an Ashoka diamond has 62 facets and rounded corners, and is named after the 41.37 carat diamond which belonged to King Ashoka of India.
Reese, a34-year-old Oscar winner and mother-of-two, was previously married to Ryan Philippe and had a long-term relationship with actor Jake Gyllenhaal. Hopefully the third time's the charm for Reese and Jim! There's no word yet on when the wedding will take place, which unsurprising for this famously private couple.
Another famously private actress, Natalie Portman recently got engaged to dancer/choreographer Benjamin Millipied. The intensely sexy couple met during the production of the movie The Black Swan, which she starred in and he choreographed. Simultaneously with their engagement, Portman, 29, and Millipied, 33, announced that they are expecting their first child together. In a statement to Entertainment Weekly, Portman said "I have always kept my private life private but I will say that I am indescribably happy and feel very grateful to have this experience."
Singer Jason Mraz couldn't wait to announce the news of his December 23rd engagement to singer-songwriter Tristan Prettyman. " He posted the good news on his Twitter account in all caps: "SHE SAID YES." Prettyman then twittered, "For Once. I Am Speechless..i did good! holy crap!! man of my dreams!!! for the rest of my life!!!"[sic]
Though rumors of their engagement have persisted for months, Leann Rimes and fiancé Eddie Cibrian finally got engaged on Christmas Eve, and announced their engagement on Twitter. The CSI:Miami actor reportedly purposed to the country music star with a five-carat oval-shaped diamond ring. They controversially met during filming of the TV movie Northern Lights while both married to other people. It's believed they were having an affair for months before ending the marriages and going public with their relationship in August, 2009.
Cibrian proposed with a 5-carat oval diamond set in a rose gold fleur-de-lis. According to People, the couple wanted an antique feel, but a new ring, and worked with Polachek jewelers to make it happen. Rimes thanked her fans on Twitter, saying, "Thank you for all your well wishes!! We are extremely excited and look forward to a beautiful future. It's been an incredible last few days, I was shocked!!! We are blessed, our families are so happy and our lives are filled with love."
Playboy founder Hugh Hefner and his Playmate girlfriend Crystal Harris also got engaged on Christmas Eve, and also announced their engagement via Twitter. There's a 60-year age difference between the two, who have been dating for the past year. Harris recently shared a picture of her new round diamond engagement ring with a diamond-encrusted band. Since she's a big fan of the movie The Little Mermaid, he put the ring inside of a Little Mermaid music box, then wrapped it as a Christmas present. She told People magazine that the first thing he said to her was, "I hope it fits!"
Hefner and Harris are hardly the only couple with an age difference. 46-year old actress Vivica A. Fox got engaged to her 27-year-old club promoter beau Omar "Slim" White He purportedly proposed with an 8-carat diamond ring on December 26th, while they were vacationing in South Beach. I wonder how a club promoter affords an 8-carat ring?
Another December 26th engagement was The View cohost Sherri Shepherd and TV writer Lamar Sally. While the couple was vacationing in San Diego, Sally got friends to decorate his house with lights and flowers. They returned home to her dog wearing a Santa beard and hat, sitting next to a tiny little box with the ring.
Big Love actress Ginnifer Goodwin and her boyfriend of two years Joey Kern waited to share their happy news with their families before they announced the engagement to the public on Christmas Eve. Kern, an actor best known for his roles in the movies Cabin Fever and Grind, proposed with a ring he designed himself. Ginnifer and Joey are reportedly planning their wedding for fall 2011.
