Untraditional and Unusual Wedding Gift Registries

For the untraditional bride and groom, check out these new sites to register for your wedding gifts. From modern art to registering for your honeymoon, you'll find it here.
Advice on untraditional registering
If you yawn at the idea of registering for towels and toasters, read this article from New York Magazine; be inspired by couples who registered for everything from Vespas to trees.
Donate to Charity
If a couple has lived together before the wedding, or simply feel that they have all of the home furnishings they need, they may consider registering for gifts to your favorite charity. This site allows you to set up an online registry with no set-up fee, and then check on who has donated for thank-you notes. They will charge your guests a five dollar service fee.
Donate to charity with no fee
If you're asking your guests to give to only one charity, stop here to search for the perfect one. While you don't get some of the benefits of a traditional registry (primarily keeping track of who has given, and to whom you've written thank-you notes), this way your guests won't be charged any fees. The charity may be able to keep track of who has given and provide you with regular lists.
Create a gift
Asking for money is widely considered rude (giving money is appropriate; the bride and groom just shouldn't ask). However, if you know your guests well, and are trying to save for a big item, consider this site. Your guests can contribute to a house down payment, or furniture. (Just don't use it to buy groceries; this is your chance to create a home together.)
Register for your honeymoon
Like the above link to "create a gift," couples should be careful about registering for their honeymoon, as some guests may view it as a tacky plea for money. Yet if your guests are comfortable with it, you can register for your honeymoon here. My advice is to set up your itinerary in detail, so guests can give you a romantic dinner or tickets to a great play.
Spa Gift Certificates
If you're honeymooning at a spa (or having a destination wedding at or near a spa), consider asking for spa gift certificates. They'll help make your trip extra special by letting you pamper yourself fully.
