Tell us about your ring, and any stories behind it.
At some point in our courtship I told my fiance, "If someone proposed to me I would rather he tie a piece of string around my finger than pull out a big diamond." He took these words to heart because when he decided to propose he got some needles and knit a thread into the perfect engagement ring.
Describe the proposal! Was it a surprise? Romantic?
My fiance is really into wildlife photography so when he got a great shot of a bald eagle he had me close my eyes before showing it to me. But instead of getting a camera in my hands I got a ring on my finger instead. Definitely a surprise!
Do you love your engagement ring? Be honest!
It is absolutely perfect except that I can't wear it on my finger without destroying it. Fortunately it makes a lovely pendant, too :)
What's your favorite part about your engagement ring?
1. That my fiance made it himself
2. That he honored my knitting hobby by learning how to knit
3. That he took my ring request to heart
4. That it's one-of-a-kind

I'm not exactly sure where he got the knitting needles to make the ring (probably Michael's or another craft store) but he actually got the metallic crochet thread and the crystal bead from his coworker's wife. She is also and avid knitter and gave him some pointers on how to get started.
Advice
- I learned that dropping little hints about what you want in a ring definitely pays off. You don't have to flat out say, "When you propose to me I want xxx" either. Just commenting on other people's rings, talking in hypothetical terms, and showing off your own personal style so that he knows what you like should do the trick. I also learned that an engagement ring can say a lot about your relationship. For example, not only does my ring show my fiance's commitment to me, it also symbolizes how he listens to what I have to say, honors my opinions, and appreciates my interests.
