Will Swine Flu Affect Your Wedding or Honeymoon?
Thursday April 30, 2009
The reports on swine flu are so alarming, it's hard to understand how to be safe without being too reactionary. Is it a world-wide pandemic that should send everyone to hide in their houses? Or should you just wash your hands more frequently?

- If you still have a few months until your wedding, sit tight. With every day, health officials are getting more information and working on more ways to fight this epidemic. Consider getting wedding insurance and travel insurance.
- If your wedding or honeymoon is in the next week or two, you and your guests should check to make sure your airline or cruise ship hasn't already canceled the trip. If not, some are offering to let passengers change their travel plans without additional fees. Whether or not you postpone your wedding is up to you and your own personal comfort level. If you don't postpone, try to be understanding if some out-of-town guests decide not to come at the last minute.
- If your wedding is a year or more from now, there's no reason to rule out affected areas as possible destination wedding locations or honeymoon locales. I wouldn't be rushing to lock anything in or put down nonrefundable deposits, but the outlook is almost certain to be very different that far in the future.

- Avoid contact with ill persons.
- When you cough or sneeze, cover your nose and mouth with a tissue or your sleeve (if you do not have a tissue). Throw used tissues in a trash can.
- After you cough or sneeze, wash your hands with soap and water, or use an alcohol-based hand gel.
- If you think you are ill with flu, avoid close contact with others as much as possible. Stay at home or in your hotel room. Seek medical care if you are severely ill (such as having trouble breathing). There are antiviral medications for prevention and treatment of swine flu that a doctor can prescribe. Do not go to work, school, or travel while ill.

We get married at the end of June and are going on our Honeymoon to Mexico anyways, since the WHO says the flu is declining…
We have done some research and it seems it will all go away by then.
Still we have a plan B just in case we need it
I’m apalled at how the media has blown this all out of proportion. Of couse, people die from COMPLICATIONS of flu, like pneumonia or other secondary infections. Vulnerable individuals such as the frail or infants or immune compromised individuals may be more likely to get those secondary infections. Malaria is a pandemic in some countries, far worse than all of the “swine” flu cases put together… would it spoil a wedding? probably not a real worry IF ill people stay home and vulneralble people take precaution.
I’ve thought of this for people with destination weddings, too. I think it comes down to the same concept no matter what the concept or potential issue – listen to the available information and make judgments and take precautions based on that and your own common sense.
Kind of. I have canceled my ticket to China. I heard they are going to check all passengers from affected area. I wish the swine flu will go away soon.
Getting wedding insurance won’t help protect your wedding from a Swine Flu issue. From what I’ve been looking into, insurers will not cover any loses due to swine flu as they are considering it a “known” condition. Ridiculous, every disease is know doesn’t mean its a pre-existing condition.
