Week 5 of the Today Show Throws a Destination Wedding

Nikki's Wedding Dress for the Destination Wedding, & Bridesmaids' Dresses

By Nina Callaway, About.com

This week, on the "Today Show Throws a Destination Wedding," we finally get to learn which wedding dress the bride Nikki will wear, along with seeing the choices for the bridesmaids' dresses! So this week will be a very important one for really setting the look of this destination wedding in Cap Juluca. (Don't worry about our Army Corporal groom Buddy; we'll also get to vote soon on which tuxedo he'll wear.)

As you may remember, viewers had four beautiful wedding dresses to choose from, each appropriate for getting married on the beach.

  • An ivory halter-style design from Lazaro
  • A v-neck wedding dress with a handkerchief hem from Monique Lhuillier
  • A strapless gown with long chiffon ties from Amy Michaelson
  • An Angel Sanchez wedding dress with feminine ruffles and a panel skirt.
For a recap of those choices, check out Week 4 of a Destination Wedding

On the confession cam, Nikki and Buddy revealed that they both love choice number 3 – the strapless look remains very popular with many brides, but that they also liked choice number 2 – it reminds Buddy of a greek goddess!

And the winning wedding dress is:

the Monique L'Huillier dress! Monique Lhuillier is a wedding dress designer to the stars – she's designed two wedding dresses for Britney Spears this year alone! She also designed wedding dresses for Jennifer Lopez, Trista Rehn, and Carmen Electra, and many evening dresses for this year's Emmy winners. It will be easy to pack, and great for being on the beach barefoot.

The next vote to be made is on the bridesmaids' dresses and flower girl dress

Since Nikki has an adorable daughter Addison, this week's choices will all include a dress for the flower girl. Nikki said that her three bridesmaids are all relaxed about what they'll wear, and very excited about going to Cap Juluca. Her maid of honor is Christy, a high school friend, and her other two bridesmaids are her sister and her sister-in-law.

Judy Gordon, the Today Show's style editor said that contemporary bridesmaids' dresses have gotten a lot more wearable, and reflect current fashion trends. They truly are wearable again, and range between $180 and $400. The Today Show has chosen four dresses that are not only attractive and wearable, but also will be appropriate for a beach wedding.

The first choice is a coral dress of triple-ply silk with an empire waist, and a criss-cross neckline from J.Crew. Cut on the bias, it will drape easily over the body, and be great to dance in. The flower girl would wear a salmon-colored silk shantung dress from Jenny Yoo, with full skirt, empire waist, shirred straps and pin-tucked bodice. The hemline and waist have contrasting colored bands, which match perfectly with the bridesmaid dress.

Choice #2 is a Vera Wang strapless soft lavender dress with empire waist and sophisticated pleats around the bust. Flower girl Addison would wear a purple gingham dress from Simple Silhouettes with a bow that ties in the back, creating a small bustle.

The third choice is a ribbon striped taffeta dress with candy colors of hot pink, melon and and a hot-pink ribbon tie around the waist. A strapless bridesmaid dress, it includes a boned corset which will help it be flattering on a wide variety of figures. The flower girl would wear a hot pink dress of cotton sateen with light pink knotted tie straps and an accent band of light pink at the hemline. Both dresses are by Kathlin Argiro

The fourth bridesmaid dress is a layered dress in three shades of aqua. The organza dress features spaghetti straps, a shirred strap at the waist, and a layered, ethereal hemline. It would be matched by a flower girl dress in an ivory duchess satin with a turquoise bow. Both dresses are from Thread.

Don't miss your chance to vote on these bridesmaid dresses and flowergirl outfits!
