Week 6 of Today Throws a Destination Wedding
See the Winning Bridesmaid Dress, and the Amazing Wedding Invitation Choices

By Nina Callaway, About.com

This week on Today Throws a Destination Wedding, we'll get to find out which bridesmaid and flower girl dresses Nikki's friends and sister will wear in Cap Juluca, and see the choices for some incredible wedding invitations. (If you missed a week of Today Throws a Destination Wedding, click here to read from the beginning). This week also marks the end of Buddy's active service with the army. He is now a member of the Army Reserves. This is fantastic for them because they did have a long-distance love when Buddy was deployed in Iraq. They communicated through emails, and they credit this time with really allowing their love to blossom. There is still a possibility that he will be deployed again, but he can now begin his life as a private citizen.

Before we learn which bridesmaid dress viewers chose, here are the dresses that people had to choose from:

  • A coral silk dress by JCrew with pink taffeta flower girl dress by Jenny Yoo
  • A lavender bridesmaid dress from Vera Wang, with a purple checked flower girl dress from Simple Sillhouettes
  • A candy-striped bridesmaid dress and a hot pink flower girl dress by Kathlin Argiro
  • A blue chiffon bridesmaid dress and a white flowergirl dress with blue bow around the waist, both by Thread

For a recap of these choices, visit week 5 of Today Throws a Destination Wedding.

In talking about the choices, Nikki said that her bridesmaids gave their two cents but the nice thing is that she doesn't have to be the one to choose! On the Confession Cam, Nikki and Buddy were enthusiastic about all the choices, but said that their favorite was choice number four, especially because Addison wanted to wear a white flower girl dress.

Which dresses will Nikki's bridesmaids and flower girl wear?

The winning combination, voted on by 14,085 people, was look number 1 by JCrew and Jenny Yoo. This is actually a very smart choice by the American public, as this will be the most flattering dress on a variety of shapes. Bridesmaids will also have fun dancing, without the worry of a strapless dress.

What Creative Wedding Invitations will Invite Guests to This Amazing Destination Wedding?

There is a new trend in wedding invitations. While the standard black ink engraved on ecru paper will always be a classic, brides and grooms are branching out. Particularly for a destination wedding, you want to set the stage from the first moment your guests get their mail. It will heighten their anticipation when they open a brightly colored envelope, see a pretty patterned envelope-lining, or see a unique format or intricate fold.

Viewers have four unique wedding invitations to chose from, designed especially for Nikki and Buddy's destination wedding:

  • Love Luck and Angels's wedding invitation sets the stage for an elegant and tropical wedding. Printed on a fabriano paper in sage ink, the invitation has an accent of three bright red flowers embossed across the top. This is then mounted on a bamboo sushi mat for a unique, handmade look.

  • Shwamy has designed a wedding invitation that is casual, adventurous and fun! Guests will receive what looks like an airplane ticket in an envelope printed with a custom designed map highlighting that this is a destination wedding. They'll then slide out a grommeted card printed in fun colors of aqua, orange, and green in a fresh horizontal layout. They have a horizontal invite, with fun colors and font.

  • From Stacey Claire Boyd, comes a preppy wedding invitation with an old-fashioned feel. Guests will first open a mother-of-pearl buckled ribbon, to find stacked cards inside a striped folder, with information on activites, lodging and travel, as well as of course the wedding ceremony and reception. This stacked card is one of the hottest trends in wedding invitations right now, as it immediately gives guests the sense that this is a multi-faceted, multi-part wedding not to be missed.

  • Creative Intelligence designed a passport themed wedding invitation with an old-world look to it. Guests will be reminded to pack their passports as they open the heavy brown folder, seeing both the invitation, an old-fashioned map, and a booklet of travel information tied in a pretty blue bow.
